Advocating for Social  Justice in Communities Award Acceptance Speech

The conference MC started by introducing the recipient of the Advocating for Social Justice in Communities Award. He mentioned that she is a mother of five beautiful children who has dedicated her life to the community as a community worker and has supported the Ugandan and African Community throughout her life in Canada. He mentioned that her journey in community service began in May uh 2019 just 2 years after arriving in Canada along with some community members. Furthermore, he continued to say that she played a pivotal role in ensuring that an undocumented failed Refugee claimant by the name of Zoe was safely returned to Uganda with the support of Christ Church Embassy. She coordinated her travel documents with the Ugandan High Commission in Canada. He also mentioned that in April 2020 this individual founded a registered charity called the center for social justice that supports survivors of gender-based violence and that she is a volunteer with the national Unity platform Canada, a chapter where she dedicates her energy to support newcomers fleeing political persecution and welcomed her o receive the award.

Mrs Doreen Kajumba began by saying she was deeply honored and humbled to receive the award for advocating for social justice in communities for people of African descent. She went on to say that the recognition from African descent Ontario was profoundly very important to her and that she was incredibly very grateful because she is committed to the cause of justice and equity and that the award really affirms the importance of their Collective energy as a community to fostering a just Society. She appreciated the entire team at African descent and the executive director Mr Tadala saying she was very grateful to them for pushing their agenda as a people of African descent forward and that the recognition was not only for her but for everybody and everyone who makes sure they work so that they are recognized as people of African descent and that she is gratefully thankful and honored.  Finally, she said that the award was not for her but for all of them of African descent because she knows all of them work for the betterment of each other.
